Strasbourg is the second most popular tourist city in France, after Paris; and there are three points. Best time to visit Strasbourg

With only one day to see the city, you’ll want to plan your trip to Strasbourg well. There is nothing worse than arriving at your destination in terrible weather or having to fight your way through crowds. As such, the best time to visit Strasbourg is in spring and autumn, when the weather is good and the number of tourists is low.

High season in Strasbourg falls in summer, with August being the busiest month of the year. July is usually hotter than August and about as busy. Arriving sometime during the months of April to June or waiting until September is best, as you will find that exploring the city is fun and stress-free.

Another popular time to visit Strasbourg is Christmas, as the city has one of the best Christmas markets in Europe. With big markets and bright lights taking center stage, late November and December are fun times, but these months can be more expensive when looking at accommodation.

Sights and things to do in Strasbourg

Stroll the narrow streets of the Quartier des Tanneurs (La Petite France)

In the heart of historic Strasbourg, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Quartier des Tanneurs (also known as “La Petite France”) is a warm canal and old narrow streets lined with houses with half a well-placed tree. In the 16th and 17th centuries, it was home to the town’s tanners and fishermen.

The best street in the area is rue du Bain-aux-Plantes. Strolling along this easy road allows you to admire traditional Alsatian houses with flower sills. Tourists should look for the Maison des Tanneurs, a semi-detached house at 42 rue du Bain-aux-Plantes. Built in 1572 and listed as a historical monument, the Maison des Tanneurs is now a gourmet restaurant with elegant interior decoration and an outdoor terrace overlooking the river. This is one of the best places to go in Strasbourg for good Alsatian food.

To the southwest are the Ponts Couverts, which include four of the city’s central guard towers. From the covered bridge of the Grande Écluse, a panoramic view of the Strasbourg landscape. The Grande Ecluse is open to the public during the day and illuminated at night. Quartier des Tanneurs has a beautiful and attractive beach. Along the tree-lined banks, tourists and locals alike enjoy strolling through this beautiful area, far from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Eglise Saint-Thomas

The Church of Saint-Thomas is located on the site of an old church built at the beginning of the sixth century, dedicated to the Apostle Saint Thomas. After it was destroyed by fire, the church of St. Thomas in the 12th century. During its 800-year history, Saint-Thomas Church is best known for its role during the Protestant Reformation in Alsace. The church is the seat of the Lutheran faith in the area.

The church has a clock that, for 400 years, has been four minutes late. The thought must be heard before the cathedral clock strikes. Continuing its tradition as a Protestant place of worship, Saint-Thomas Church offers religious services on Sunday mornings at 10:30 am. Afternoon prayers are offered from 12:10 am to 12:30 pm, Monday to Friday. Tourists can visit the church Monday through Saturday from 10 am to 6 pm and Sunday from 12 pm to 5:30 pm.
