About Guilin

Guilin is a small city in southern China with a population of almost one million people. The city is very beautiful, set among karst mountains like Folded Brocade Hill, Fubo Hill and Solitary Beauty Peak. The view from these mountains is beautiful, with beautiful mountains around the city, and two green rivers – Li and ‘Peach Blossom’ flowing through it.

Four lakes in the countryside are connected to each other as well as the Li and ‘Peach Blossom’ rivers. Along these rivers and lakes are bamboo and green trees. Boats go to “Two Rivers and Four Lakes” day and night. The beautiful place is especially attractive at night when the lake is lit up in red. Guilin means “Sweet Osmanthus Forest”, named after the many fragrant osmanthus trees. Every year in October, when the osmanthus trees bloom, the city is filled with their sweet fragrance.

Unlike other fast-growing Chinese cities full of tall buildings, many developments in Guilin are about 20 stories high so they don’t cover the mountains and spoil the view. The city has a relaxed and calm atmosphere, where you can find locals having fun chatting, playing cards or taking a leisurely stroll through the park or ‘beaches and lakes.
